I recenly got an iPod mini and use it for audiobook listening during my comute to work. I am not succeeding in getting bookmarks to persist. My experience follows...
When I am listening to an audiobook (audible.com in case it matters) and hit the pause/play icon on the bottom of the scroll-wheel, the audiobook pauses and resumes if i press that icon again. happiness.
If I press and HOLD that part of the scroll-wheel, then a bookmark seems to be created and the iPOD screen goes blank. iPOD seems to go into hibernation, since if I later hit the pause/play icon - even overnight - the audiobook resumes where it left off w/o any navigation being necessary. happiness again.
HOWEVER, if too much time goes by - eg, over an entire weekend - then the iPOD seems to shutdown. I have to boot it up via the middle button and navigate to the audiobook I was last listening to. That would not be so bad, but the bookmark does not get saved (persisted by the shutdown)!
It seems that the point from which I "start" listening is persisted, but any "pause" is not persisted.
Can anyone explain how I can:
i) persist my bookmark after I Pause
ii) tell the iPOD to shutdown (rather than have it hibernate and eventually shutdown on its own. Hmmm...maybe it's crashing from lack of power as the battery drains over the weekend and not hibernating at all? I just connect it to my car battery each AM driving to work, etc...)
