My iPod mini's apple start screen won't go away

So my iPod mini's start screen with the apple won't go away since i installed apple linux on it. It won't even connect to my computer. I tried restarting it and that didn't work. So i need to know how to get it into disc mode so i can uninstall apple linux.

When you reboot, press and hold select and play for about 3 seconds, plug it in, and run the updater.
