so my 4g mini is frozen on this apple screen after i try and charge it with my car charger after it went dead in my room, i soft reset tryed holding selec+play for disk mode, did the whole connecting to pc thing too. my pc doesent detect it and switching usb ports really didnt healp much either. i also tried letting it die out and trying to recharge it but when i did that i was left with a frozen battery charge animation screen upon connecting it then after soft resetting from there i was back to square one with the apple, so what do i do with this non fuctioning ipod now?

Even when you put it in disk mode the computer still doesnt recognize it?

You reset it by holding Menu and action, not play and action.

He said he tried pressing that for disk mode.

Yeah, but you gotta reset it first, then during the boot process you hold play and action.

You didn't say that. At least not in this thread.

I'm getting this too. Any information on how to fix this? It won't reset nor can I get it in disk mode.
Thanks!

The dead ipod icon usually means the hard drive in the ipod is dead. Mine showed that icon earlier today. I gave it a couple of whacks on my leg (not too hard, don't want to break it even more) to see if i can get the drive spinning and luckily it worked! See, sometimes the American way of fixing things can work. ;) If that doesn't work, hopefully you have a warranty from the store you bought it from or apple.

Yeah do what gamesha said, wack it a few times. Chances are the drive is stuck and this will unstick it.

I'm new to this so, as everyone else on here seems to say...bare with me. Now, I don't care what people are going to think of some of the info in this post, but if we all stick to what's important then we'll all be happy. Now, today there was a power outage in my neighborhood, and my iPod mini (6GB) was connected to the computer (I think I was re-filling the damn thing since RealPlayer constantly messes up when adding tracks to the iPod). Anyway, after the power came on the iPod seemed fine. I was in the process of looking for another iPod file transfer program because 1)RealPlayer sucks, 2)Anapod Explorer isn't really worth it, and 3)since I'm still with Win98SE I can't use the great and good iTunes. Well, I found something called Ephpod, which was working just fine...until my computer decided to freeze in the middle of transferring a large amount of files. Well, I couldn't control-alt-delete so I manually restarted...and now the damn thing (the iPod) wants to click and not move past the Apple logo! I called the people at HP who want me to send it to them, which I may have to do since I tried the leg-slapping thing. Now, I don't know if the power outage had any effect because, as I said, the player worked fine afterwards. And I had a Creative Labs Zen Xtra that did this clicking thing, but it came back to life after I reset and whatnot (the people at Creative seem a lil' smarter with resetting). I've tried the leg-slap, the manual reset, left it in the box...and not only is it still clicking, it's warm as hell. So, if anyone has a solution (besides taking it somewhere and getting it fixed), post it here or leave me a PM because I'm really pissed at how I just got the damn thing after buying it back in September for my woman (who got one of those new 60GB video ones for graduation)...and it wants to die!!!
P.S. It'll respond to the select-menu reset, meaning it'll flash black lines, sometimes thin, sometimes thick...but go right back to clicking.

Well, I slapped the damn thing around and got it to display (what I figured was wrong ALL along) the infamous folder-exclamation point saying my database was corrupted. When I first got it going I couldn't run ScanDisk (it'd recognize the iPod but would freeze), so I ran Anapod Reinitializer, which re-formatted the hard drive. Right now it's charging so we'll go from there...

That does it. I don't know if it's this computer, the power outage that occurred, or what, but I've had it with this damn thing. I've re-formatted, restored, tried to run ScanDisk and Defrag...and I'm still getting the exclamation-folder!!! And when it's charging, it's now freezing at the screen that says OK to disconnect...and it never did that!!! Tomorrow I'll try to connect to a computer running XP and download the restore and update software, and go from there, but if that doesn't work...it's back to Creative.

you told me to post the answer instead of my email address. I didn't go around the language filter, apparently jackass is not a swear word.
