added new hdd...updater wont work

hey all...i just bought a 4GB micro hdd from ebay...i connected it to my ipod fine but when i connect it to my PC and try to run the updater, it says Can't Mount iPod...i restarted my computer few times and tried different versions of the updater...i also tried doing it on my mac and it didnt even detect it...the hdd is formated in Fat32 at the moment...i have a card reader that reads this micro hdd if that helps...what can i do to get this up and running?I also get a picture of a folder with an "!" next to it...

does it also display the sad ipod screen. I think maby this might be a bad hard drive and the ebay seller ripped you off or ups or whatever shipping company you used was a little rough with the package. At least you dont have my ipod mini problems

Try to put it into disk mode then connect it to your pc and open the updater.
