mini has no sound

I posted this yesterday under general, changed battery on mini, it looks like it works, shows everything, plays music but no sound comes out??? Tried different headphones,no go

So my loss of sound has nothing to do with the battery or the hardrive. It loads songs and plays them, but no sound (and it's not a problem with the headphones...though I wish it were). There is a small dent on the side next to my headphone jack, but I don't think it is sufficient enough to cause loss of sound.

Does anyone have any suggestions of things to try?

Have you people tried reconnecting the old battery to see if the sound gets back? If that's not the case it'll be a hardware problem. Could have knocked off a transistor when slotting the ipod back together.
