hell has no fury like a 14 year old girl whos ipod died. let me describe what happend i'm thinking its the battery but i would like some confirmation before i drop 30 bucks on a new battery

basically for the last month the battery has been sporatically showing the wrong charge level and dropping off now and then.

yesterday she couldnt get it to turn on even if its plugged in to her computer

if the battery is dead wouldnt the ipod still work if it was plugged in to a power source.

Thanks.

Bill

Yes, it would work if it was plugged in to a power source. And if the harddrive went bad, it would still at least start up. Mabye something is disconnected inside somehow?

Is there any way to test the battery?

I don't think so if the iPod won't start up.

Yeah, with the secret diagnostic menu,

When the iPod is off:

hold down Menu + Select, select is middel round button,

when the apple logo appears:

hold down |<< + select for a while,

you'll get in the menu, with many thing to test. To scroll trough the menu:

hit >>|

When you choose RD BATT, you'll test the battery and you'll get a number.

Now the funny part, I dont know what the number means... :P

Damn, stupid stupid me, how can you get into the menu, of your mini won't even turn on :(

Im 14 and ive had a mini for a day and let me tell you school sucks with out an mp3. I bought it broken from some kid it displayed the sad icon (shown below) meaning it needed a new hrd drive becuase the drive was clicking. Anyways i knew what icon meant so your mini DOES NOT need a new hard drive it has to display the sad icon than turn. I slapped the ipod mini and amazingly the hard drive came back for a day than conked out again. I currently have parts comming. Anways if this is the battery icon (shown below) than the problem is prabably NOT WITH THE BATTERY. This may sound weird but i think its with the clickwheel plug that came loose, infact im pretty sure becuase i experimented with my broken ipod mini with striking results and i wont work becuase the clickwheel isnt pluggged in right, go here for disasembling the mini http://homepage.mac.com/pyrosfire/ipodmechanic/PhotoAlbum39.html. Hope it helps
email me if you get it working at kuziwk@hotmail.com
or post a reply

The diagnostic menu isn't really secret. A lot of people know about it and there isn't a way to get to it without it starting up like he said above. Try reading the post carefully first before jumping to conclusions that won't even help somebody.
